![]() In fact, if you can find and hunt down a SlingPlayer prior to version 2.0.3 the Direct IP option without forced Login to the account is also an option. This is evident by using the script with manual IP/Port setup (which doesn't have anything to do with Slings servers), and also by completely blocking Sling's IP class of 67.148.153.0/24 on a firewall (to simulate their servers being offline as will be the case in Nov 2022) and then use an older Windows ver 1.5 SlingPlayer with Direct IP. Therefore, the SlingBox and Firmware still support remote WAN viewing via Direct IP over the internet even if their servers are down. The ability to remote connect to the SlingBox via SlingPlayer login authentication was a separate thing so as to easily connect the Player to the Finder ID via account registration and then just pass it back the Direct IP and Port from their db to the player for connection (in other words the actual stream from Slingbox Pro-HD's IP to the remote Player is still direct and not via their servers). You can view this info that is sent to their servers db at any time via this URL. It did not disable the Direct IP connection ability over WAN. In the Pro-HD the last firmware update only added the option for the Slingbox to send the information required to their servers db so as to locate the box's IP and port info for remote connection. But it won't allow any reconfiguration or setup of any "reset" box, and it is this functionality that will be entirely lost once they switch off their servers (and why I have also pre-setup 2 spare boxes with the equip I use in Japan in case my SlingBox Pro-HD dies). It is the case that the Player 2.0.4 doesn't authenticate i.e require account login when on a LAN and will recognise the box on it allowing you to setup the Directory entry without their servers or login. I am acutally disappointed now that my Sky HD box doesn't have S-Video or Component as the only problem now is that I am running composite video which is pretty ropy.īut overall, its now and enjoyable and usable experience. I am so impressed, its actually a usable way of distributing TV locally around the house. I can now use this as a way of pausing/rewinding I used to find on the web plugin that when the buffer filled up it would disconnect/crash. Realtime rewind/pause actually works and is stable.I ran the app yesturday for a full 10 hours, playing/testing the whole time and it was flawless With the web pluging I would probably have to restart it 5 times per day. But from my tests over the last few hours, it seems perfect.ĭid you try? Any success? I used it all day yesturday and played around with it continously and its been 100% stable and performs so much betteer than the Browser client. I cat say for certain that its working 100% yet as I need a few days. From what I can tell, I am just using the app to talk to the Slingbox directly. I can't see how it won't contnue to work after the shutdown, unless Sling fire down some kind of "kill code" to the box. ![]() I am 99% sure I am logging in and authenticating directyl with the Slingbox. I just double click on the player and it starts and connects. ![]() So I closed it and the Player worked just fine.Īnd since one of the options in the player is "Reconnect to the last Slinbox when starting", I don't even have to login an ymore. It launched but the big login box appeared over the top which never populated with a login request. Loggin in using my local password (ticking the Log in as Administrator) box. After what I read, I expected a day of "tinkering"īuyt I just installed. Could this possibly mean that the Slingbox will continue work "locally" using this Player after the shutdown next year? So I never have to connect to my Sling account.įurther more, all of the settings in the app, talk about a "direct" connection to the Slingbox. Interestingly, when I connect, I enter the password "locally" and then it takes me to my Slingplayer account which I just close. The video quality seems HUGELY improved (I guess because its streaming locally/directly, rather than over the "cloud") and there are so many more options/features, it just feels more "modern". So glad I asked now, as if this works every time, I will be really happy as its just a nicer app. Last night I was reading about SlingPlayer 2.0.4 but saw that it had problems with Win10 so was going to give it a crack today.
